Joan Marie Sweda, 77, of Hopewell passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Sweda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Sweda and a daughter, Lisa Sweda Wittenbraker. Joan was an employee of Dereski’s Nursery for thirty seven years and a member of Saint James Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons, Steven P. Sweda and his wife, Denise, Thomas J. Sweda, a granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth Wittenbraker, son-in-law, Christopher Wittenbraker, two sisters, Marian Soltis and Bernice Grego. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA and where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, July 22, 2010 with Dr. D. Alex Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at: www.nelsencares.com
