Hunt, Kathleen P. “Kay” – January 25, 1937 – June 17, 2011—Hopewell, Va. -- Kay was released from her courageous struggle with breast cancer on Friday evening to join her husband in God’s warm embrace. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Patrick Vincent Hunt; grandson, Liam Patrick Hunt; and mother and father, Ellen and Patrick Cogan. She died at home surrounded by love and family.
Kay was born in County Cork, Ireland where she met her husband and life-long companion, Patrick Vincent Hunt of County Mayo, Ireland. Kay was a trained classical singer who won many competitions and awards. Instead of pursuing opportunities in music, Kay chose to raise her family. Singing continued to be a life-long passion of hers. Her beautiful voice brought happiness to and enriched the lives of her family, friends, and fellow parishioners.
Kay also took pride and pleasure in her professional life, showing dedication to her employers and customers during her time with Avon Germany; JCPenney; and Philip Morris, where she was known as the “Ambassador of First Impressions.”
Kay’s greatest gift was her generous and unconditional love for her family. She is survived by her daughters: Myriam Hunt; Una Hinton and husband, Curtis; Barbara Beck and husband, Shelley; granddaughters, Nicole and Shannon Beck; sister, Eileen Geary and husband, Brian; sister, Breda Carey and husband, Derry; brother, Jim and wife, Betty; and brother, Fr. Patrick “Paddy” Cogan, as well as extended family in Ireland.
Kay will be forever loved and missed by her heartbroken family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and care partners, especially Teena, Rhea, and Danielle who tended to her with great love and compassion.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am-12:30pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Nelsen Funeral Home in Hopewell, VA. A Mass will be celebrated, following the visitation at 1:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell, VA with Fr. “Paddy” Cogan officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Chester, VA. Condolences may be registered at: www.nelsencares.com
